When I founded Madison Technologies in 1991, we introduced new products and technologies to the telecommunications industry, which was at the time, in the initial stages of deregulation.
Now in our 30th year of operation, this offering has expanded to the provision of products, solutions and services across Industrial Communications, Enterprise and Industrial Data Networking, Telecommunications, Industrial IoT, Broadcast, Audio Visual, and Cabling Solutions which are supplied though our office and warehouse distribution centres across Australia and New Zealand and some of which is manufactured at our Head Office site in Brisbane.
Madison has grown from a start-up company in 1991 to an organisation that now employs over 120 people involved in delivering communications solutions across a broad range of industries and technical disciplines that require quite different approaches.
In trying to accommodate the vast array of customer requirements associated with a diverse business that Madison has become, it became evident that the “structure” that had evolved since we started out with in 1991, was holding us back.
We asked some of our customers to participate in a survey that we commissioned, to determine how we could better organise ourselves to service our client base in a more efficient, meaningful and effective way. The feedback that we received was that we were a pretty good mob to deal with, with a great range of products and services, but confusing and not the easiest to transact with.
As a result of that feedback, we initiated a re-structure of the entire organisation and we have re-purposed each of our Business Units which will now be identified by separate “brands” but will obviously be Madison Businesses.
Operating under the new “parent” of Madison Group Enterprises, will be four businesses providing specialist products, solutions and services to better defined markets and channels.
MadisonAV, previously our Broadcast and AV Business Unit, is now a dedicated specialist AV Partner and distributor of professional Audio Visual products for the end user and integration market.
Operating essentially under a Direct Supply model, MadisonAV represents a range of leading brands such as Philips and Spinetix, and including the HARMAN portfolio of Professional products incorporating AMX, JBL, Crown, BSS, AKG and DBX that all offer technology solutions for commercial audio, digital signage and video conferencing systems.
This division is headed up by Ken Kyle, CEO MadisonAV. Ken has been with Madison for 23 years leading our Broadcast AV business unit. Many of you will already know Ken and appreciate his wealth of knowledge and experience across the AV and Broadcast industries throughout Australia.
Madison Express is our new brand for our Cabling & Connectivity division. The division has historically specialised in the distribution of communications cable and connectivity products, with its primary channel to market being via Electrical Wholesalers and Resellers.
This Business has been re-purposed to now provide the entire range of Madison product, where appropriate, through its Channel Partners with a view to servicing a much broader range of customers via that Channel.
Representing a range of leading brands including 3M and R&M as well as our very own range of Garland Cable products, this Business will continue to be headed up by Steve Manion, CEO Madison Express. Steve has been running our Cable and Connectivity business for the past five years, but has been operating in the broader Electrical Supply industry for over 25 years.
Operationally, Steve has the business already well organised and structured to take on this new responsibility, and has positioned his team
to continue to provide the backbone for many critical networks throughout Australia ensuring our customers are “always connected”.
Madison Technologies is the name that will be most familiar to our Customers and Suppliers given that has been our Parent Company name since our inception.
We have amalgamated three Madison Business Units in Telco, Industrial IT&C and Technical Building Services to create the new look “Madison Technologies” and to become our “Communications Technologies” Business. Madison Technologies is a design and engineering based value added distributor of technology products and solutions for industrial, telecommunications and commercial applications. This Business will continue to represent leading brands including Moxa, Mobotix, Cybertec and Rajant, as well as our own House brands of manufactured products for the broader communications industry and also operates primarily under a direct supply model.
Madison Technologies is headed up by Paul Calabro as CEO. Paul has been with Madison for the past four years and is also responsible
for our internal innovation group, Madison Techlab, and the manufacturing arm of the Business.
mIoT is the Madison Group’s newest enterprise and is a developer and manufacturer of Industrial IoT edge device products.
This Business is involved in creating and developing leading edge technology that relates to the mass deployment of remote monitoring devices, operating on the Narrow Band (Industrial) section of the cellular network spectrum (NB-IoT).
Headed up by Shaun Smith as CEO, this Business has exclusive channel agreements with Telstra in Australia, and is developing similar arrangements with Telco Carriers in Europe and the USA.
Madison Group Enterprises (MGE) will be the entity with which you trade, however, day to day your dealings will be with one, or perhaps more of the specific businesses as above.
MGE provides all of the support functions for the Madison Businesses on a Shared Services basis through our Business & Corporate Services Group (BCS), which is headed up by our CCO, Richard Majlinder.
Richard is responsible for our Finance, IT, HR and Logistics staff and services, and has been with Madison for over four years now and has been integral in our re-structure exercise.
Visually, you will see that all four brands are “obviously” a Madison Business. From their new branding and new websites, with all offering innovative solutions, it’s clear all are Madison Businesses. However, this evolution now gives them a clear focus and purpose with the aim of providing much needed clarity and making your dealings with the Madison Group easier, which was one of the primary requests that came from our customer survey.
Shortly you will receive an email from the CEOs of each Business, where relevant, with specifics on what these changes mean for you and the way you do business with Madison.
Thank you all for your business and your support over the last 30 years.
For me, it’s all gone in a blur, but I find myself more excited than ever before with the opportunities that our wonderful industry continues to deliver. I look forward to serving you for many more years to come, and please do not hesitate to contact me or any of my CEOs with any questions or queries that you might have. I’m confident that, with this new structure, we’ll remain your preferred business partner.
Finally, a special thanks to those of you that gave of your time to contribute to our customer survey, which is where this exercise all began.
We listened, but more importantly, we acted on your advice and I am particularly keen to receive your feedback at any time, on how you think we’re going.
Thank you once again.
Yours Sincerely,
David Redfern
